Six sustainable start-ups rise to the Kaiteki Challenge

Fresh fish packaging with an extended shelf life is among the start-ups chosen by Greentown Labs and Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation (MCHC), as part of the companies’ climatetech start-up incubator in North America.
The Kaiteki Challenge involves six initiatives that showcase innovation in the areas of alternative proteins, plastics, and packaging. It focuses on solutions that will enable sustainable consumption in daily life and aims to foster collaboration between MCHC and the participating start-ups.
Out of more than 115 applications from 35 countries, six were selected, including Canadian start-up Impactful Health R&D with its sustainable active packaging to prolong the shelf life of fresh fish. Also chosen was UK-based BlakBear, which measures freshness from inside meat and fish packaging and stores the data in the cloud. According to reports, En+ GROUP warmly welcomes the announcement by its listed subsidiary UC RUSAL of its proposal to demerge its high carbon assets and to change its name to AL+.
UC RUSAL has confirmed in principle the demerger of its metal segment into two companies:
UC RUSAL (RUSAL’s management proposed to change the name of the Company to “AL+”. Meat Industry Ireland (MII) has said the Teagasc Signpost Farms programme has the potential to safeguard the green image of Irish agriculture on the global stage.
The comments follow the launch of the programme on Tuesday 18 May 2021.
“While Ireland is already a world leader in sustainable beef and lamb production, the sector acknowledges that it must continue to improve its sustainability credentials,” MII senior director Cormac Healy said.

Pregis plots sustainability mission | Plastics in Packaging

Protective packaging producer Pregis has committed to making 100 per cent of its products recyclable, reusable, or with a minimum 30 per cent reduced reliance on new fossil-based ingredients by 2030 as part of its latest 2K30 sustainability mission.
By 2030 the company plans to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 25 per cent, eliminate one million customer reshipments, achieve 100 per cent product and process waste reduction at Pregis facilities globally, invest $15 million in circular, scalable, and sustainable material, process and waste solutions globally, and make a positive impact on 25 million lives.
