Seamus Maughan and Terence Mongan were sentenced at Chester Crown Court TWO men who callously stole catalytic converters from two vehicles relied upon by disabled people have been jailed. Seamus Maughan and Terence Mongan caused more than £2,000 worth of damage to two vehicles in Warrington through their ‘despicable’ actions. But the pair were hauled back before the court yesterday, Tuesday, where they were told that only an immediate custodial sentence would be appropriate. Prosecutor Clare Jones explained how Maughan, 38, and Mongan, 45 – both of Warrington Road in Runcorn – were arrested by police at around 8.20pm on October 16 in the Gemini area.

Midway through the hearing, prosecutor Clare Jones revealed that she was duty bound to reduce a sentencing guideline grading – which determines the starting point for the length of sentences – after failing to acquire the value of the converters from Cheshire Police, despite multiple attempts.
