On 28 June, the fifth ‘Intergenerational Report’ (IGR) was finally released.
After a long delay, Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and the Treasury lay it all out.
The problem is the IGR is based on one big lie.
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg outlines how 30 years ago, for each person aged over 65, there were 6.6 people of “working age”. Today, there are four working age people and by 2060-61, there will only be 2.7 for each person aged over 65. In other words, the economy can’t afford an ageing population.
You’d think workforce participation had gone down in the last 30 years, with worse to come. It hasn’t. The opposite has happened. ....

Two micro-parties wanting to legalise marijuana and adopt daylight saving now have a voice on the crossbench of Western Australia s Upper House, despite receiving just a fraction of the primary vote.

The Legalise Marijuana WA Party s Sophia Moermond has secured a seat in the Legislative Council s South West region from 2 per cent of votes.
Meanwhile, the Daylight Saving Party s Wilson Tucker has been elected in the Mining and Pastoral Region after starting the count with just 98 votes, or 0.2 per cent. ....

Victoria is growing increasingly isolated in its tepid response to evidence that organised crime syndicates infiltrated Crown Melbourne and used the casino’s bank accounts to launder drug money, after Western Australia launched an independent review of the group’s casino licence.
