Greencastle-Antrim voters tap newcomers for council, school board

Greencastle Mayor Ben Thomas Jr., a Republican, was unopposed for re-election and received 520 votes.
Also uncontested were Republican Antrim Township Supervisors Chad Murray (1,560) and Fred Young (1,395).
Tax collectors Sue Myers, Antrim Township, and Barbara Bock, Greencastle, both Republicans, also advanced without opposition.

Connie Lazich, judge of elections at Grace United Church of Christ in Greencastle, termed voter turnout pretty good for an off-year election.

AARP Foundation's Tax-Aide program now available

Volunteers with the AARP Foundation s Tax-Aide program expect to file more than 400 federal, state and local tax returns for local residents thanks to the help of a team of volunteers.
The group is set up in the Shady Grove Community Center to provide free tax services, primarily focusing on returns for senior citizens, according to volunteer Doug Tengler, now in his second year with the program. “I m so proud of the many volunteers that spent so many hours this year with no pay at all. This is just neighbor helping neighbor,” he noted.
The nationwide tax help program is aimed at those who have low to moderate incomes, but Tax-Aide is open to anyone free of charge and you don t need to be an AARP member. ....

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers ready to help get millions in refunds

The Chambersburg AARP s Tax-Aide free tax preparation program is being extended another month to coincide with the IRS changing the filing deadline until May 17.
Appointments can be made Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays through May 14 at the Chambersburg Rec Center.
Volunteers are available by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Shady Grove Community Center until April 15, then on Tuesdays only after that.
The final day in McConnellsburg is April 7, as originally scheduled.
Appointments can be made by calling 717-778-4227 or 717-263-5479. Roger Schwalm, local coordinator for the national program, said patience is a virtue when calling for an appointment because only two people are available to answer the calls. ....
