NSW Labor Leader Denies Knowledge of 'Dirt Dossier' as 2 MPs Quit Shadow Ministry

NSW Labor Leader Denies Knowledge of ‘Dirt Dossier’ as 2 MPs Quit Shadow Ministry
SYDNEY—New South Wales (NSW) Labor Opposition Leader Jodi McKay has downplayed suggestions that she faces a leadership spill after two MPs resigned from her shadow cabinet this week.
This comes after a staffer from the deputy leader’s office distributed to the press a “dirt dossier” on NSW Labor’s Transport spokesman Chris Minns, who is considered a potential contender for the leadership.
Minns, who previously lost a challenge for the leadership to McKay in 2019, resigned on Tuesday.
“I’m obviously very disappointed by news reports yesterday that a dirt dossier was distributed by the Deputy Leader (Yasmin Catley) of the Labor Party’s office,” Minns wrote in a statement.

The mayor of Toowoomba says he’s frustrated a political war is being fought over whether to put a quarantine facility near his city without anyone asking what locals want.
The stand-off between the Queensland government and the Commonwealth has continued this week over the proposed quarantine facility, which the state is pushing to be built on the grounds of the Wellcamp Airport on the outskirts of Toowoomba, west of Brisbane.
Wellcamp Airport on Toowoomba’s outskirts has been put forward as a possible location for a quarantine hub.

There’s a trick for governments trying to manage their economy. Once in a while – maybe every 30 or 40 years – the rules of the economic game change. What used to be the right thing to do becomes wrong, and now the right thing is something we’ve long believed was not the way to go.
Trouble is, the game change is never announced by thunder and lightning flashes from on high that everybody sees. Those paying close attention soon get the message, but many people – even many economists – don’t.

Former Opposition Leader Alistair Coe has bid farewell to the Legislative Assembly today after formally tendering his resignation to Speaker Joy Burch.
Mr Coe first announced he would resign in January, after initially saying he would stay on despite the Canberra Liberals’ defeat at last year’s ACT election. He resigned the leadership which was won by Elizabeth Lee.
His resignation will trigger a countback of votes in his Gungahlin-based seat of Yerrabi, which will likely see former Liberal MLA James Milligan re-elected after losing his seat last year.

Victorian business confidence down again

Liberal Party Victoria
Data released today by NAB has confirmed that business confidence has continued to deteriorate under Daniel Andrews and Labor.
The NAB Monthly Business Survey for December 2020 showed that Victoria had the largest fall in business confidence of any Australian state, down 15 points.
Falling business confidence means fewer businesses expanding and less new jobs being created for Victorians.
This news comes in the same week as CommSec reported that Victoria’s retail sector was the worst-performing in Australia, and Victoria had the smallest wages growth.
These latest figures demonstrate the uphill battle the Victorian economy faces, as workers and small business continue to pay the price of Daniel Andrews mishandled COVID-19 response and the consequences of the botched hotel quarantine program which led to the state’s second wave.
