Sheep ultrasound certification school set for May

NSIP ultrasound certification is available through the AgriLife Extension program.
Training to provide a general understanding of how ultrasound technology works and best practices in the sheep industry.
An ultrasound certification school will be offered by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, May 4-5. The event will be held at the Hamilton Sheep Station, 2165 County Road 519, Evant.
The cost is $200 for individuals wanting to become certified to scan sheep for the National Sheep Improvement Program, NSIP, or $100 for individuals wanting to solely participate in the educational portion of the program.

Texas A&M University’s Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications, ALEC, is working with rural schools to make sure the future offers as many opportunities as possible for Texas youth.
The rural school partnership and program is one Matt Baker, head of the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Bryan-College Station, is extraordinarily passionate about.
Baker understands the importance of rural education firsthand, not just for students but for communities.

Sheep Carcass ultrasound webinar set for March 24

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present an Ultrasound for Carcass Traits in Sheep webinar March 24 from 2-4:30 p.m.
The program is free, but preregistration is required by 1:30 p.m. on the day of the event.
Ultrasound is a proven technology that producers can use to improve quality and consistency of carcass traits in sheep. (

“Ultrasound is a proven technology to improve quality and consistency of carcass traits in sheep yet has been underutilized by Texas seedstock sheep breeders,” said Reid Redden, AgriLife Extension sheep and goat specialist and director of the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Service Center at San Angelo. “This technology has resulted in great improvements for beef cattle genetics, and we anticipate similar gains for the sheep industry.” ....
