Saskatoon woman sentenced to 6 years in 2018 stabbing death of retired educator Colin Sutherland

Colin Sutherland, 54, a retired Saskatoon educator, was fatally stabbed in his apartment by his girlfriend, Sheritta Kahpeaysewat, over Easter weekend in 2018.(Submitted)
Sheritta Kahpeaysewat, 34, was sentenced on Tuesday to six years in a federal institution for the stabbing death of her partner, 54-year-old retired Saskatoon educator Colin Sutherland, in 2018.
Previously charged with second-degree murder, Kahpeaysewat pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month at Court of Queen s Bench in Saskatoon, arguing she was intoxicated and didn t remember what had happened the day Sutherland died. She had no prior criminal record.
Following victim impact statements from Sutherland s family and a joint submission from the Crown and defence, Justice Gerald Allbright handed Kahpeaysewat a six-year sentence which, after remand credit, leaves her roughly two-and-a-half years left to serve. ....

Destin Mosquito acknowledges he had a gun that went off during a melee, killing a 31-year-old Saskatoon father, but says he did not intentionally fire it.
The sentencing hearing for Mosquito, 23, took place at Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench on Monday after he pleaded guilty to breaking and entering to commit an assault with a weapon and manslaughter in connection with Kevin Nataucappo’s death on Sept. 21, 2019.

Man charged with accessory to murder of Tiki Laverdiere granted bail

Both the Crown and defense agreed to Takakenew’s release. Justice Gerald Allbright imposed strict conditions on Takakenew’s release. There is a ban on publication on the details of the hearing.
Takakenew will be released on $1,000 bail. He will be under house arrest 24-hours a day. He must comply with curfew checks, abstain from alcohol and drugs not prescribed by a medical doctor. Takakenew was ordered not to contact several people, except through his lawyer. There is a ban on publishing their names.
Takakenew has been in custody since Edmonton Police arrested him on Aug. 26, 2020. He was living in Edmonton since Laverdiere’s murder. Saskatchewan RCMP issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest on Aug. 4, 2020. ....
