CATLETTSBURG Parks and Recreation head Justin Pruitt moved up in the county Tuesday, after being appointed by the Boyd County Fiscal Court to the newly created County Administrator position at the governing bodyâs noon meeting.
Akin to the duties of a city manager, the county administrator will handle the day-to-day operations of the county departments, according to Judge-Executive Eric Chaney.
While certainly not as sexy as Fridayâs announcement about the KYOVA Mall property, the position marks a new direction for how the county government operates.
Traditionally, the judge-executive handles the day-to-day tasks in the counties, but Chaney said that has led to a break-down in communications, an issue Chaney readily admitted was partially his fault. ....

Boyd Fiscal approves clean-up contract

CATLETTSBURG In less than 10 minutes, the Boyd County Fiscal Court awarded a $1.7 million bid at a special meeting Monday to ICD, a local company, for clean-up in the wake of the last monthâs ice storm.
The contract is expected to be inked Tuesday after review by County Attorney Phillip Hedrick, according to Judge-Executive Eric Chaney.
A total of eight bids were submitted for review based on FEMA stipulations by county emergency management officials. ICD made the cut and was recommended to the fiscal court for approval, Chaney said.
âThe fact it happens to be a local company is very positive because they live here and want to get to the clean-up right away,â Chaney said. ....
