E-courts may let cases be filed 24/7 from anywhere | India News


NEW DELHI: Limiting the registry’s role in prioritising cases, Phase 3 of the e-Courts project, currently in the draft stage, has proposed a 24/7 digital window to litigants and lawyers to file cases from anywhere, anytime with the provision of scheduling digital hearings in an open court, ensuring compliance of timelines by both judges and litigants.
Use of artificial intelligence has been proposed to “intelligently recommend schedules for hearing by optimising and coordinating the schedules and time of different actors (judges, lawyers and litigants)”, the draft proposal put up on the website of the justice department seeking stakeholders’ suggestions said.
The Centre’s ambitious e-Courts project, initiated in 2005, has completed two phases so far. At a cost of Rs 2,300 crore, it has computerised almost all 19,000 functional district and subordinate courts with broadband connectivity and equipped judges and courtrooms with modern communication gadgets. The Supreme Court of India has on Saturday released the draft vision document prepared for Phase III of the eCourts Project which is a mission mode project undertaken by the Department of Justice, Government of India. The feedbacks, inputs and suggestions can be sent to the ecommittee email id within 2 weeks
The Apex Court s ecommittee through its press release has notified that the document is hosted on the ecommittee website and has requested all the stakeholders including Advocates, Litigants, common citizens, Law students, technical experts to come forward to and give valuable inputs suggestions and feedbacks as their knowledge, insight, concerns, and experience will help refine the vision document and plan its implementation. ....

New Delhi [India], December 11 (ANI): As many as 2,927 court complexes across India have been connected so far by a high-speed Wide Area Network (WAN) under the e-Courts Project out of the 2,992 sites conceived to be connected, the Ministry of Law and Justice said on Friday.
It said this development has led to the completion of 97.86 per cent sites out of the total conceived number of court complexes to be connected with high-speed WAN under the project.
Department of Justice (DoJ) along with BSNL is working relentlessly on connecting the remaining sites. Under e-Courts Project, one of the largest digital networks of the world was conceived by Department of Justice along with the e-Committee of the Supreme Court of India to connect the 2,992 court complexes located all over India by a high-speed Wide Area Net ....
