Downtown Des Moines Farmer's Market Expands Memorial Day Weekend | 1075 KISS FM

Great news!!!! We didn t have to wait that long to get back to the Downtown Farmer s Market we knew pre-pandemic. After taking last year off due to COVID-19, the Downtown Des Moines Farmer s Market came back this month, but scaled down. As of now, the booths are spaced a safe distance apart and only produce is being sold. As of now, there is no live music and no on-site prepared food. Everything, right now, is pre-packaged.
As of Memorial Day weekend, some of the prepared food vendors will be back and so will a few musicians! In the meantime, it s still nice to see the farmer s market back in action!!! Come down this week and stay for a drink or some food at one of the Court Avenue District restaurants. Some of the establishments along Court Avenue have bands that play on Saturday mornings, so there s that! ....

Iowa House increases protection for police, penalties for protest crimes

Iowa House lawmakers have passed a wide-ranging bill strengthening legal protections for police and raising penalties for protest-related offenses.
Wednesday s House debate, which frequently invoked last summer s protests for racial justice, came as former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is on trial for murder in the death of George Floyd, a Black Minneapolis man, and as Minnesota has seen renewed protests over the police killing of another Black man, Daunte Wright.
The chamber passed the legislation Wednesday evening on a 63-30 vote, with eight Democrats joining 55 Republicans to vote yes. Two Republicans, Rep. Eddie Andrews of Johnston and Rep. Jeff Shipley of Fairfield, joined 28 Democrats in voting no. Seven representatives were absent. The bill now returns to the Senate for consideration. ....

Three injured in overnight shooting at Court Avenue district

Des Moines Police are searching for a suspect who opened fire at the Court Avenue District and injured three people.
The shooting happened around 12:30 Saturday morning in the 200 block of 3rd street. Police say a male victim was the intended target, with a woman nearby being hit with a stray bullet. A third person was hit by fragments.
The two that were shot were taken the hospital in non-life threatening condition.
Police say witnesses and the victims are refusing to cooperate with police.
