WHO IS DILIP KUMAR PAUL?

The 64-year-old leader hailed from a traditional business family in Silchar and completed his B.Com from Gauhati University in 1977.
In 1983, Paul joined the BJP as a primary member in the Cachar district. From 1997 to 2002, he was the BJP Ward President of Silchar. Later in 2012, the Assamese leader became the President of the BJP Town Mandal Committee.
 
Paul was elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly for the first time in 2014 and in 2016 for the second time, defeating Congress leaders both times. He was the Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, but in a letter to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, he asked to be relieved from the post. ....

Guwahati, April 1 : The voting for the second phase of Assam assembly elections began on Thursday morning amid tight security and all Covid-19 protocols, officials said.
Men, women and the first-time voters in large numbers queued up in front of the polling stations well before the voting for 39 of the total of 126 assembly seats opened at 7 a.m.
The polling would continue till 6 p.m. without any break in 13 districts.
Assam Chief Electoral Officer Nitin Khade said that 73,44,631 voters, including 36,09,959 women, are eligible to cast their votes across 10,592 polling stations including 556 all women managed polling stations. ....

Assembly Elections 2021: Over 73% turnout in Assam till 5 pm, says EC


Over 73 per cent of the 73,44,631 voters exercised their franchise till 5 p.m. in the second phase of polling in Assam on Thursday, election officials said, adding that no untoward incident was reported from the 39 constituencies, where balloting would officially end at 6 p.m.
Senior election officials and police officers said that no incident of violence was reported so far from the 13 districts where the voting was underway.
In a few polling stations, voting was halted for some time due to technical snags in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), which were soon rectified.
Men, women and first-time voters queued up in front of the polling stations in large numbers well before the voting began at 7 a.m. Polling time has been in creased by an hour till 6 p.m. by the election officials in view of the Covid-19 situation. ....

New Delhi [India], April 1 (ANI): Polling for the second and penultimate phase of Assam assembly polls began at 7 am on Thursday to decide the fate of 345 candidates in 39 constituencies across 13 districts.
The high-octane poll campaign for the second phase ended on Tuesday with all the players including the ruling NDA, Congress-led Mahajath making hard efforts to woo voters. The polling began at 7 am.
The main contest is seen to be between the alliances led by BJP and Congress.
The BJP-led alliance also includes the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People s Party Liberal (UPPL). ....
