Mumbai Police are in the process of filing a case of misappropriation and cheating against car designer Dilip Chhabria over a complaint lodged against him by comedian Kapil Sharma a few months back for allegedly duping him to the tune of Rs 5.30 crore, which he had paid for manufacturing a vanity bus, an official said. Chhabria was arrested last week, after the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of Mumbai police unearthed a major DC Avanti car financing and forgery scam. ....

Mumbai: After Dilip Chhabria's arrest, comedian Kapil Sharma called for inquiry into car financing racket

On December 28, 2020, CIU arrested Chhabria for allegedly running a car financing racket. According to the police, Dilip Chhabria Designs Pvt Ltd posing as customers for his own DC Avanti car, procured loan from multiples Non Banking Financial Companies (NBFC). So far 127 DC Avanti cars have been manufactured and police have suspect as many as 90 cars have been used for fraudulent financing.
The total fraud amount is reportedly over Rs 40 crore. The crime branch has also named Chhabria s son and sister along with his two company directors as wanted accuse in the case.
On Monday, 14 DC Avanti cars along with 40 engines and 19 other high end bikes and vehicles had been seized by CIU from his manufacturing unit in Pune. ....

MUMBAI: City crime branch, probing an interstate car-financing and forgery scam involving India’s leading car designer, Dilip Chhabria (68), have shown his son Bonito, sister Kanchan and company directors Choclingam Kathiravan and Sethraman Selvara as wanted accused. Dilip had allegedly cheated an Indian cricketer and a Bollywood actor, which needs to be thoroughly probed, the remand application stated.
Crime intelligence unit had arrested Dilip for the scam worth more than Rs 100 crore. The 37th metropolitan magistrate on Saturday remanded him to police custody till January 7.

MUMBAI: With the arrest of India’s leading car designer Dilip Chhabria on Monday, police claim to have unearthed an interstate car financing and forgery scam worth nearly Rs 100 crore. On Tuesday, Chhabria (68) was produced before the Esplanade metropolitan magistrate, which remanded him in police custody till January 2.
