Year-long use of Osmington Holiday Park Lodges rejected by planning committee

YEAR-ROUND use of the holiday site at Osmington Mills has been rejected by a Dorset Council area planning committee.
Owermoigne councillor Nick Ireland claimed it was nonsense to argue that the site was ‘sustainable’ when recent applications for homes in his village had been refused because they were considered not to be – although the village had local facilities available and a bus route.
“I don’t understand why this is considered sustainable when some villages are not…it doesn’t make any sense to me,” he said.
Other councillors were concerned about enforcing a condition of the planning consent which would mean people not being allowed to use the site as their main residence. Others said the increased use of the site would have an impact on the ecology of the area and up the site’s carbon footprint with additional heating and lighting as well as extra visitors travelling to and from the site. ....

Decision expected on extended opening for Waterside Holiday Park, Osmington Mills

A SECOND attempt will be made this week to decide if the Osmington Mills Holidays site can be used year-round.
The decision was expected to be made by a Dorset Council area planning committee last month but was postponed at the last minute ‘for technical reasons.’
These are understood to include not notifying everyone who should have been made aware of the meeting.
Similar reasons were given for the disappearance from the last agenda of a Bridport item over proposed changes to a listed property at 7 St Andrews Road, Bridport. That is now also due to be discussed at the meeting this Thursday, July 8th at 10am. ....

Weymouth holiday park scales down original expansion plans

A REVISED application has been submitted scaling back plans to expand a popular Weymouth holiday park.
Waterside Holiday Group originally submitted plans for 56 ‘high end’ residences at Weymouth’s Bowleaze Cove. This has since been scaled down to 31 units following a number of objections which were made by concerned residents about the expansion to the existing park.
The company says the homes would blend in with the environment, while saying the development would deliver vital jobs and boost Dorset’s economy.
Allen Main, group general manager at Waterside Holiday Group said: We have now submitted a revised application after taking on board comments from consultees regarding the impact of our proposed expansion on the environment and traffic volumes. Although our original application received no objections from authorities including Highways, we appreciate that there were still a few common matters of concern put forwards by key stakeholders. ....

'Extremely detrimental to the area': objections slam plans to expand Weymouth holiday park

DOZENS of objections have been made to expansion plans at a popular Weymouth holiday park.
Waterside Holiday Group submitted plans for 56 ‘high end’ residences at Weymouth’s Bowleaze Cove. The plan is for an 18-acre site next to the existing Waterside Holiday Park and Spa, with 31 cedar-clad static homes and 25 ‘round houses’. The company says the homes would blend in with the environment and deliver vital jobs and spending to Dorset’s economy.
A second area would be developed for recreation use, with landscaping work across the site.
However 80 objections have been submitted by concerned residents to Dorset Council - with concerns raised that the expansion would be ‘detrimental’ to the area and would negatively impact traffic, parking, wildlife and pollution levels. ....
