Pick up the phone: Calls for St. Clair County health survey begin next week

If St. Clair County residents see an out-of-state or unfamiliar number light up their phone screens in the coming weeks, it could be a data collector calling with questions.
And health department officials want people to pick up.
The county is launching its next community health needs assessment, and over-the-phone surveys begin in the next week. The last health survey came five years ago with results publishing in 2017.
A cyclical process that helps develop community response plans, the assessment has previously addressed information about local adult’s health behaviors, including access to health care and literacy, chronic pain, common ailments and illnesses, caregiving, and substance use disorders. ....

Marine City receives several grants from Community Foundation

Marine City is a step closer to having it's own public marina along the Belle River. The Community Foundation of St. Clair County will be financially supporting the new marina which was identified as a top priority by a local group of business and governmental leaders. Hal Walker chairs the Blue Meets Green coalition and says the project is much needed as there currently is no public marina in Marine City. "There's between 600 and a 1000 linear feet of docking area that's going to be for transient boaters," says Walker, who anticipates there being 20 to 25 slips built at the site. The marina is expected to cost around $377,000 with the Community Foundation of St. Clair County contributing the first $45,000 towards the project. The City of Marine City is also working closely with Six Rivers Land Conservancy to help develop the marina. Health officials ask elected leaders to endorse vaccine, other COVID mitigation efforts

St. Clair County health officials are asking local elected leaders to formally endorse efforts to encourage COVID-19 vaccinations and other mitigation measures against the virus.
On Monday, city council members in both Port Huron and Marysville unanimously approved resolutions related to the vaccine, as well as mask use in public spaces and limiting gatherings to allow at least six feet between people not in the same household.
And officials said it was anticipated other communities will be asked to take similar action.
“St Clair County has had one of the most alarming rates of COVID-19 cases in the nation, resulting in lost workforce, suffering and death,” Dr. Annette Mercatante, the county’s medical health officer, told Port Huron officials in a letter last week. “Likewise, it is our duty to suggest to you that this crisis is not going to ‘stop’ unless dedicated and deliberate actions are taken by the majority of our citizens.
