CROWN POINT — Several Region leaders and child advocates gathered to put a spotlight on child abuse prevention and awareness in a candlelight vigil. 
The Candlelight Vigil for Victims of Child Abuse was held Wednesday evening at the old Lake County Courthouse in downtown Crown Point.
In light of April being child abuse prevention month, Geminus Community Partners, Indiana Department of Child Services, CASA, and Kids First Trust Fund collaborated to create an event that memorialized children who have died from abuse and spread awareness on the issue. ....

American actress, comedian, and author Tiffany Haddish is known for her unshakable candor and sense of humor. And although she’s a pro at making people laugh, her background is anything but a joke. As a young teenager, she spent several years in foster care, and struggled to find a place where she felt at home. One of the most difficult things about being a child in the system is constantly having to pack your things inside a trash bag. For Haddish, her experience improved when she began using proper luggage and started feeling more like a “traveler.” That’s why she’s donated 100 suitcases to kids in foster care, so they can feel like they’re on an adventure, too. ....

“I’ve been in this agency for 18 years. I have been taking children out of homes and moving them to other homes, and when I see those garbage bags. It’s unfortunate that we still have to do that,” ....

Tiffany Haddish made a donation of 100 suitcases that were distributed over the holiday season


Tiffany Haddish was certainly feeling the giving spirit of the holidays this past December.
Last month, the Indiana Department of Child Services made a post to its official Twitter account to thank the actress for making a donation of over 100 suitcases to be distributed during the holiday season. 
The idea for the donation came after the 41-year-old recounted some of her own experiences in the foster care system carrying her belongings in garbage bags.
