More than 20,000 books in various genres will be for sale starting Friday, May 14, at this weekendâs Friends of the Lancaster Public Libraryâs ReSort Book Sale. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 14 and 15, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 16, which is half-price day. The sale is at the volunteer friends groupâs Book ReSort at 225 N. Marshall St. More than half the books for sale are priced between 50 cents and $2. Other items are individually priced, according to a news release from the Lancaster Public Library â the beneficiary of the friendsâ proceeds from the sale.
While locals are queuing up in the former Bon-Ton department store in Lancasterâs Park City Center for their shots of COVID-19 vaccine, a group of library volunteers is making plans to set up their annual Big Book Sale in that same spot â just a few months later than they originally thought. Pat Ditzler, book operations chair for the Friends of the Lancaster Public Library, says the fundraising Big Book Sale theyâd hoped to return to its usual May schedule will move to August again this year, after Lancaster Countyâs mass-vaccination center has finished its work this summer.

The Lancaster Book ReSort will reopen Monday to accept donations of gently used books, DVDs, CDs and vinyl records. The ReSort at 225 N. Marshall St., which is operated by the Friends of the Lancaster Public Library, will be open and staffed by volunteers from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Wednesdays. Items must be bagged or boxed; thereâs a donation limit of 10 boxes or bags per person. Items should be brought to the Book ReSortâs back door, off Fulton Street. Sales of these items at the libraryâs used book stores and book sales raise money for the Lancaster library.
