More than 20K books available this weekend at sale benefiting Lancaster Public Library

More than 20,000 books in various genres will be for sale starting Friday, May 14, at this weekend’s Friends of the Lancaster Public Library’s ReSort Book Sale.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 14 and 15, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 16, which is half-price day.
The sale is at the volunteer friends group’s Book ReSort at 225 N. Marshall St.
More than half the books for sale are priced between 50 cents and $2. Other items are individually priced, according to a news release from the Lancaster Public Library — the beneficiary of the friends’ proceeds from the sale.

With vaccine center open at former Bon-Ton, library book sale rescheduled to August

While locals are queuing up in the former Bon-Ton department store in Lancaster’s Park City Center for their shots of COVID-19 vaccine, a group of library volunteers is making plans to set up their annual Big Book Sale in that same spot — just a few months later than they originally thought.
Pat Ditzler, book operations chair for the Friends of the Lancaster Public Library, says the fundraising Big Book Sale they’d hoped to return to its usual May schedule will move to August again this year, after Lancaster County’s mass-vaccination center has finished its work this summer.

Notions and necessity... From self-gifts to WFH necessities

We all know that turmeric has great anti-inflammatory powers and health benefits, but have you ever tried juicing it? Say hello to a yellow tinge on all juicer elements that no amount of washing will fix - not to mention yellow hands, worktops and any other surface the turmeric touches! Instead, check out these turmeric shots from Discover Juice in Donegal. Keep them in the freezer. Take them as a shot or in a juice or heat one up for turmeric tea. Ingenious, and no mess. SC

Book donation center reopens Monday to benefit Lancaster library

The Lancaster Book ReSort will reopen Monday to accept donations of gently used books, DVDs, CDs and vinyl records.
The ReSort at 225 N. Marshall St., which is operated by the Friends of the Lancaster Public Library, will be open and staffed by volunteers from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Items must be bagged or boxed; there’s a donation limit of 10 boxes or bags per person. Items should be brought to the Book ReSort’s back door, off Fulton Street.
Sales of these items at the library’s used book stores and book sales raise money for the Lancaster library.

With the loss of charity events this year companies are coming up with new ways of giving back through their sales.
As part of our Boost My Business initiative Fiona Alston spoke to four companies who are playing their part by applying social responsibility to their small businesses.
Emmett Kerrigan and Keith Loftus learned all about kombucha while living in Canada - they were running a landscape construction company in Vancouver. On their return to Ireland, they decided they wanted to bring their new healthy lifestyles with them and create a company from it.
