Law enforcement authorities said the man fatally shot during a confrontation with Palm Bay police officers Sunday is a suspect in the death of his mother in Martin County hours earlier.
Martin County sheriff s deputies checking on a woman at her son s home in Palm City Sunday found her fatally shot in the back of the head, according to reports and Martin County Sheriff William Snyder.
Snyder said Monday the apparent suspect in the murder, was the woman s son, Christopher Ruffin, 28, who was fatally shot during a standoff with Palm Bay police and Brevard County sheriff s deputies. We went, knocked on the door, Snyder said. There was no response and upon our deputy getting inside the house and checking we did find that she was deceased, and that she had died from an apparent gunshot wound.
