FCT on Red Alert over Cholera Outbreak

The spread of cholera in the nation’s capital and across the country in the last six months is highly concerning, Olawale Ajimotokan and Onyebuchi Ezigbo report
Cholera is a highly virulent gastro intestinal disease characterised in its most severe form by a sudden onset of acute watery diarrhea that can lead to death arising from dehydration.
In the last one month, an increasing number of cholera cases has been reported across states of the federation. The most affected states are Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Zamfara, Bayelsa, Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory.
A report by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), said 10,833 suspected cholera cases have been reported in 15 states, including the FCT between January and June this year. The number of confirmed cases is 112 while the fatality is 289. ....

Former army provost Marshal, General Ahmed Hassan has been shot dead by gunmen along Lokoja -Abuja road.
Army spokesman, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu who confirmed it noted that “With a heavy heart, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, Officers and Soldiers of the Nigerian Army regret to announce the passing on of Maj Gen Hassan Ahmed, a former Provost Marshall of the Nigerian Army.
“The sad incident occurred when the senior officer’s vehicle was attacked by gunmen while transiting along Lokoja-Abuja road yesterday 15 July 2021.
“A delegation from the Army Headquarters led by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army) Maj Gen Anthony Omozoje has visited the widow and other members of the bereaved family. ....

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor and other service chiefs, senior military officers, and family members attended the burial ceremony of Major General Husseini Ahmed, who was killed by gunmen along Lokoja-Abuja Road on his way to Abuja.
The burial was conducted in a solemn atmosphere at Lungi Barracks Cemetery in Abuja, amid tears by family members, colleagues, and others, who thronged the cemetery.
Speaking at the burial, Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen.Faruk Yahaya lamented and described as very sad, the death of General Ahmed, who was a former Army Provost Marshal and Director, Veteran Affairs of the army. ....

A source close to the family said the ambush occured close to the Abaji area of Abuja.
The aggressors kidnapped General Ahmed’s sister, Safina Ahmed (initially mistaken for the wife).
The siblings and the deceased’s driver, Sergeant Bukar were returning to the nation’s capital from Okene when they were attacked.
DAILY POST further gathered that General Ahmed didn’t travel heavy as he made the trip without guards.
