The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has called for the sacking of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah, as the Secretary of National Peace Committee chaired by former Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar.
The organisation made the call in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, on Tuesday.
The group said the call had become necessary because of Kukah’s failure to show remorse over his controversial Christmas Day message wherein he allegedly poured invectives on a particular religion.
It noted that members of the Abdulsalam Abubakar-led committee should be seen to be non-controversial because of the role they were meant to play in ensuring peace in the land. ....

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has been asked to resign from the General Abdul Salaam-led National Peace Committee.
This call was made by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), in a statement signed by the director of the organization, Professor Ishaq Akintola.
Bishop Kukah had in his Christmas message to Nigerians stated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government owes Nigerians an explanation over the killings of innocent people in the country.
Kukah said the spilling of blood across the country must be related to a more sinister plot that is beyond the people’s comprehension. ....

Following his criticism of the Buhari administration, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has been asked to resign from the General Abdulsalami-led National Peace Committee.
The resignation call was contained in a statement by Professor Ishaq Akintola of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) organization.
It would be recalled that Bishop Kukah had, in his Christmas message, noted that Buhari owed Nigerians some explanation on the continual increase in the murder of innocent Nigerians.
The Bishop alleged that there was an ulterior motive for the ongoing spilling of blood across the country.
His comments generated controversies from several quarters, with many insinuating that he was calling for a coup. ....
