Four retired generals of the Nigerian Army yesterday warned the federal government that Nigeria might cease to exist with over 6.145 million small arms and light weapons (SALW) illegally in circulation nationwide.
The ex-generals, therefore asked the federal government to declare a state of emergency on arms proliferation and try to stop them from coming into the country instead of focusing on the demand side only.
In separate interviews with THISDAY, the ex-generals warned that the growing trend of arms proliferation “portends grave threat to national peace and security if the federal government does not address it decisively.” ....

Bishop Matthew Kukah has been asked to resign from the General Abdul Salaam-led National Peace Committee.
Making the call is the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), in a statement signed and made available to DAILY POST by the director of the organization, Prof Ishaq Akintola.
Recall that Bishop Kukah of the Sokoto Archdiocese of the Catholic Church had in his Christmas message to Nigerians, bemoaned the nepotism which, according to him, has characterised the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The cleric claimed there could have been a coup or war in the country if a non-Nothern Muslim was the president in the last five years and did some of the things Buhari is doing. ....

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has been asked to resign from the General Abdul Salaam-led National Peace Committee.
This call was made by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), in a statement signed by the director of the organization, Professor Ishaq Akintola.
Bishop Kukah had in his Christmas message to Nigerians stated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government owes Nigerians an explanation over the killings of innocent people in the country.
Kukah said the spilling of blood across the country must be related to a more sinister plot that is beyond the people’s comprehension. ....
