Niamey (Niger), May 27, 2021 – Intergovernmental organisations and private sector actors from West Africa began discussions on Wednesday to improve the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in the sub-region. These discussions were held on May 26-27 during a regional virtual forum for West Africa co-organised by the Sub-Regional Office for West Africa of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). This two-day meeting formed part of the implementation of the AfCFTA, which entered its operationalisation phase on January 1, 2021, thus laying the foundations for a process of strengthening intra-African trade. ....
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a ministerial delegation for Accra to resolve the lingering rift between Nigerian traders and the Ghanaian authorities. To be led by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, the team, which is composed of relevant stakeholders, would also further dialogue with the West African nation with a view to finding a lasting solution to the problem. The information was contained in a statement issued yesterday by the minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Ifedayo Sayo, in Abuja. The delegation is visiting between May 31 and June 1. The itinerary was arrived at yesterday in Abuja during a meeting convened by Adebayo, with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dad and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, participating. ....

The delegation will be led by Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media, Mr Ifedayo Sayo.
