How to prevent Nigeria’s collapse (2)

Last week, I commenced a discussion on what must be done to prevent the country from impending doom, particularly in the light of the current state of insecurity ravaging the nation.
I ended the edition by noting that there has been a call by many stakeholders for restructuring and the enactment of a new constitution, particularly one which bears semblance to the 1963 Constitution, with modifications to conform to current realities.
The Call for a New Constitution
Between 1960 and 1966, Nigeria’s governmental system under the 1960 Independence Constitution and 1963 Republican Constitution birthed Federalism in which governmental powers were shared between the central government and component regions – East, North, West, and Mid-West. In reality, the four regions were constitutionally more powerful than the central government that was limited to less and specific exclusive le ....

Every threat provides an opportunity and when the most is made of the opportunity, it produces a desired outcome. The new or subsisting threats to the media can largely be surmounted by the basic codes and canons of journalism like courage, truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness, social justice and public accountability. I would, to those codes, add consistency in upholding values.
Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 10 of the Human Rights Act, and Section 39 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria confer on humans the right to freedom of opinion, expression, the press, and the right to receive and impart information and ideas, without interference by the public authority and regardless of frontiers. This is a qualified right, which enables anyone to hold free opinion and express t ....

Aso Rock wickedly turning against their long term buddy, Channels Television - Nnamdi Kanu

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Tuesday reacted to the suspension of Channels Television by the Federal Government’s National Broadcasting Commission.
Kanu who described the action as irrational, draconian and hypocritical, stressed that Nigeria was under the rule of a tyrant.
The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, had suspended Channels Television for interviewing IPOB’s National Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful and for allowing him to make inciting declarations on air without caution.
Reacting, Kanu said the suspension was a confirmation that the Federal Government cannot be trusted.
He spoke through Powerful in a statement that reads: “The attention of the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great and indomitable leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been drawn to the recent pronouncement by the hypocritical Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) that they have suspended and fined Channels T ....

The Indigenous People of Biafra has condemned the suspension of Channels TV by the National Broadcasting Commission for interviewing the spokesman for the group, Emma Powerful on Sunday night.
The sanction against the station included a fined, which the group also kicked against.
The Nnamdi Kanu-led group on Tuesday described the decision of NBC as ‘wicked and undemocratic action.’
Reacting on Tuesday, the pro-Biafra group said the deed has justified its persistent calls that the country is governed by a tyrant with the sole aim of elevating Islam and Fulani above other religions and nationalities, alleging that suppressing the media is one of the means to actualising the agenda. ....
