A resident, who witnessed the kidnapping of 27 students and 15 workers of Government Science College, Kagara in the Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, has described how the kidnappers tied their victims in pairs and took them away.
The man, who lives close to the school,   confided in
The PUNCH on Wednesday that the bandits, who wore  military uniform, stormed the school at 2am.
When one of our correspondents got to the school at 2pm on Wednesday, he observed that many buildings including classrooms and hostels were dilapidated. ....

Edo govt’s ‘no-work-no-pay’ policy empty threat – NUT

 Teachers under the Edo State branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers on Friday said they would not call off their ongoing strike following a ‘no work, no pay’ policy announced by the state government ahead of the resumption of schools on February 1.
The teachers said they would not succumb to what they described an “empty threat,” as they vowed to continue with the strike until their demands were met.
The NUT had directed treachers in the state to begin an indefinite strike on January 18, following the expiration of a 21-day and 14-day ultimatums earlier issued to the state government. ....

Rising COVID-19 cases: NUT cautions FG against Jan 18 schools’ resumption date

The Nigeria Union of Teachers on Thursday cautioned the Federal Government against the January 18 resumption date for schools across the country.
The NUT Secretary-General, Dr Mike Ike-Ene, who stated this in an interview with one of our correspondents, said there was no need to hurriedly resume,  if the rate of COVID-19 infection kept increasing.
Ike-Ene stated that if coronavirus infection was increasing,  teachers would stay at home.
Recalled that the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 had on December 17 said the country had entered COVID-19 second wave. ....
