It was a busy week for the Mid-Prairie girls and boys track teams. After spending time in the state capital for the Drake Relays, Mid-Prairie ended the week by having the girls host their home meet on Thursday and sending the boys to Newton Friday. At the girls home meet, the Golden Hawks impressed the home crowd, taking the team championship with 154 points. Solon was second with 124.5 points. The Hawks had eight championship events on the night. Phoebe Shetler won the championship in the 3000 with a time of 11:30.16 with Abby Fleming second. Behla Schmidt led a Mid-Prairie 1-2-3 in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.26 seconds. Amara Jones was second and Sidney Davis third. Maddie Edgington took the 200 in 26.93 seconds. Sydney Yoder won the 1500 in 5:14.92 with Ana Fleming third. Madeline Schrader won gold in long jump clearing 15’3″. Mid-Prairie had three championship relays winning the shuttle hurdle in 1:15.47, distance medley in 4:33.23 and 4×100 in 51.76 seconds. Other ....
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team returns to the floor tonight when they welcome Cascade to Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman. The Hawks are 3-2 on the season and were dominant last time out, beating up on North Cedar 64-8. Mid-Prairie put four in double figures in that game with Phelan Hostetler scoring 13 points, Nora Pennington and Maddie Nonnenmann each had a dozen and Myah Lugar 10. For the season, Mid-Prairie has two scoring in double figures with Nonnenmann at 13 per game and Lugar 11. Nonnenmann leads the Hawks on the glass with six boards per contest and Amara Jones has a team best four assists per game. ....
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams powered through North Cedar Friday night in River Valley Conference play. The Golden Hawk girls scored an impressive 64-8 win over the visiting Knights. The Hawks scored the first 20 in a row to start the game and led 26-1 after the first quarter. They would continue to grow the lead, enacting the continuous clock midway through the second quarter and holding a 42-8 lead at the half. The Mid-Prairie defense got even better in the second half, not allowing the Knights a single point, while posting 22 of their own. Head coach Danny Hershberger talked this weekend on the KCII Radio Coaches Corner about his team’s performance. “It was a great effort by our girls. The biggest thing was that we were communicating. The constant communication to be on the same page was important. We did a great job rebounding and holding them to just one shot. We limited our turnovers as well.
