Nolan Richardson Drive Dedicated on UA Campus

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Former Razorback men’s basketball coach Nolan Richardson helped pave the way for countless others throughout his legendary career, now future generations of Razorbacks will forge their journeys on a street that bears the name of the trailblazing Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee. Nolan Richardson Drive, previously Leroy Pond Avenue, was officially dedicated in a ceremony on Friday afternoon on the University of Arkansas campus.
Chancellor Joseph Steinmetz, legendary Arkansas coaches John McDonnell (men’s track and field) and Norm DeBriyn (baseball), Razorback head men’s basketball coach Eric Musselman and numerous former Razorback men’s basketball players were among those in attendance for a dedication ceremony coordinated by the University of Arkansas’ Black Alumni Society and the City of Fayetteville. Leroy Pond Drive to be Renamed for Famed Basketball Coach Nolan Richardson


Leroy Pond Drive will be renamed Nolan Richardson Drive on April 16 after the Fayetteville City Council voted unanimously to honor the only UA basketball coach to have led the Razorbacks to a national championship.
On March 16, city council members voted 8-0 to rename the street, which runs along the south side of Bud Walton Arena, and was chosen because of its proximity to the arena. Bud Walton houses Nolan Richardson Court, which was dedicated in October 2019 after the UA Board of Trustees voted to honor the former head basketball coach. Richardson was named the winningest basketball coach in Arkansas history after leading his teams to 369 victories during his 17 seasons spent coaching. ....

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas faces a quick turnaround before taking a break for the Holidays. After defeating Oral Roberts Sunday, Arkansas will host Abilene Christian on Tuesday at 4 pm (CT) and the game will be televised on SEC Network.
This will be the first meeting between Arkansas and Abilene Christian.
This is the second time Arkansas has faced a Southland Conference team this season, defeating Central Arkansas 100-75 on Dec. 12. Overall, Arkansas is 30-1 versus current Southland Conference members. Its lone loss was to Northwestern Stat, 74-68, on Nov. 29, 1954.
Arkansas made a big jump in the AP and Coaches polls after its 7-0 start. ....

FAYETTEVILLE – For the first time this season, Arkansas trailed at halftime (40-30) but it out-scored Oral Roberts 57-36 in the second half to secure an 87-76 victory Sunday afternoon at Bud Walton Arena.
Justin Smith and Desi Sills each posted double-doubles in the win and each had career highs in rebounds.
Smith led all players with 22 points – two shy of his career high – and pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds. Smith hauled in 10 offensive rebounds as the Razorbacks had 24 offensive boards and out-rebounded the Golden Eagles, 58-32, overall. Smith posted his fifth career double-double – first as a Razorback – and his 17 boards is the most by a Razorback since Mike Washington had 18 versus Florida in the 2009 SEC Tournament. Smith is the first Razorback with at least 10 offensive rebounds since Bobby Portis had 10 versus LSU (March 7, 2015). ....
