Halifax schools reopening, after announced closure until end of year


Students in Halifax are returning to school Thursday morning.
Halifax Regional Centre for Education officials are reminding you masks are still required on busses, and many other places in schools, so don’t forget to send your kids with one.
The reopening comes after the province announced schools would be closed for the rest of the year as the third wave hammered the province in May.
Shortly after officials announced schools outside Halifax would reopen for the last weeks of the school year and, on Monday, officials finally said Halifax-area students would return to school Thursday.
Premier Iain Rankin says the decision was based on lower cases, and the importance of in-person learning and finishing the school year strong. ....

With the number of cases in schools growing, the province announced Monday afternoon that it is shutting down all public schools in Halifax Regional Municipality and surrounding areas.
The virus is on the move in the Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia Premier Iain Rankin said during a new conference on Monday afternoon. We have community spread and we need to do all we can to slow it down
Schools will be closed as of Tuesday and students will begin at-home learning beginning Thursday for at least seven school days.
  The safety and well-being of everyone in our schools is our main concern. Every decision we make for our schools is out of an abundance of caution and in consultation with public health, Derek Mombourquette, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development said in a news release. All public schools in the Halifax area to start at-home learning later this week

All public schools in Halifax Regional Municipality and surrounding areas not already doing so will close Tuesday and start preparations to move to at-home learning as of Thursday.
This move affects all pre-primary children and grades primary to 12 public school students in Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE), as well as Conseil scolaire acadian provincial (CSAP) schools and Chignecto Central s schools in the Enfield, Elmsdale and Mount Uniacke areas.
Nova Scotia s Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution and in consultation with public health.
Moving schools in HRM and surrounding areas to at-home learning is a necessary step at this important juncture, said Derek Mombourquette in a news release.
