A dreary, windy Mother s Day in Atlantic Canada as rain tapers off
Digital Writers
Sunday, May 9th 2021, 8:47 am - Conditions will be unsettled and windy Sunday across Atlantic Canada for Mother s Day, but they will improve as the day wears on.
Mother s Day won t be a washout for Atlantic Canada by any means, but it won t be pleasant, either. Rainfall continues Sunday but will gradually ease off through the morning and afternoon, with Newfoundland expected to see the heaviest amounts. Winds will still be strong in the day, but the most intense gusts of up to 100 km/h will diminish in Newfoundland in the morning. Temperature-wise, Halifax, N.S. could be the warmest city in the region Sunday. Beyond, more unsettled weather looms. For a more detailed look, see below. ....

Dorian heads for Atlantic Canada this weekend, some brutal impact likely
Digital Writers
After a crippling impact on the Bahamas and further destruction expected along the U.S. Atlantic Coast,
Hurricane Dorian is setting its sights on Canadian territory as it heads into Maritime waters this weekend.
One of the most powerful Caribbean storms on record, Hurricane Dorian was at Category 5 strength when it slammed into the northern Bahamas early in the week, and at one point was all but stationary, parking itself over Grand Bahama and deluging it for most of two days. That s as its powerful winds whipped up storm surge that left huge portions of the island submerged. ....

Some April snow on the way for Friday night and Saturday in parts of the Maritimes

HALIFAX
Snow is not too uncommon of an occurrence for April. After all, looking at climate data for Fredericton, Halifax, and Charlottetown shows that about 10 to 20 cm of snow, on average, falls this month.
Average April snowfall near the provincial capitals from 1981 to 2010.
In fact, if we jump forward to Saturday s date, April 17th, we find that weather stations near all three of those locations have recorded a significant snowfall of several centimetres or more in the past.
Greatest snowfalls for an April 17th on record near the provincial capitals.
So what s headed our way? It s a low-pressure system coming up the U.S. eastern seaboard. The low approaches Friday night and passes the Atlantic coastline of Nova Scotia Saturday into Sunday morning. ....

The Weather Network - Strong wind, wintry impacts in Atlantic Canada precede sharp cooldown

Diving temperatures will chill Atlantic Canada before late-week storm
Digital Writers
Monday, January 18th 2021, 6:33 pm - After some lingering snow Tuesday, eyes turn to a late-week storm that threatens significant snow over Newfoundland.
Conditions will remain unsettled for parts of Atlantic Canada Tuesday, with some lingering snow for the region, courtesy of weak systems passing through and sea-effect once they depart. Temperatures will take a considerable dive this week as a pattern change will send a shot of Arctic air into the region. Wednesday is forecast to be the coldest day since February 2020 for parts of the soutnern Maritimes. Beyond, there is the potential for a potent storm to impact parts of Newfoundland late week, threatening significant snow into the weekend. More on the impact and timing, below. ....
