Province Continues to Seek Input on New Traffic Safety Act

Starting today, April 23, Nova Scotians can provide feedback on administrative regulations, the second-to-last phase for input on draft regulations under the new Traffic Safety Act.
The proposed administrative changes are available online for public feedback.
Highlights of this phase include:
vehicle seizure impoundment
sharing documents, records and information
requirements when challenging a decision made by the Registrar or the Motor Vehicle Appeals Board
fees
To date, the department has received more than 1,000 comments on draft regulations.
The new Traffic Safety Act, replacing the Motor Vehicle Act, was passed in 2018. The new act will govern and regulate the registration and identification of motor vehicles and the use of provincial highways and roads. This includes driver licences, the registration and inspection of vehicles, traffic laws and equipm ....

Government continues to seek input on Traffic Safety Act draft regulations.
Nova Scotians can now provide feedback on proposed regulations that outline the roles and responsibilities for various agencies established by the Traffic Safety Act, including law enforcement and traffic authorities.
This is the fifth group of draft regulations being shared for public comment.
Highlights of this phase of regulations include:
requirements and standards for traffic signal lights and other road signs, including addition of traffic signals for bicycles
highway marking standards
clarification of rules around seizing and impounding vehicles ....

Halifax, the largest city in the Maritimes, has seen its share of deadly gun violence.
Now that municipalities are getting the go-ahead from the federal government to ban handguns, Mayor Mike Savage says they are considering their options.
I think in terms of handguns, handguns are different than long guns, and I think it s an issue of big concern to mayors, police chiefs, public safety officials in cities everywhere, Savage said. We ll have to look at it, work with our staff and the province, see what our options are.
The new federal gun control legislation will include a buy-back program of legally owned firearms that Ottawa has deemed to be so-called assault-style weapons but it s not mandatory. ....
