And that commitment to community has earned it accolades in the past few months.
Earlier this month, the N.H. Preservation Alliance, in announcing its 12 achievement awards statewide, cited the Carey Cottage at 400 Little Harbor Road in Portsmouth and the work done by JSA and others.
Once the target of demolition, the 19th century structure is now a fully rehabilitated mixed use space that continues to stand as a prime example of what is called the “arts and crafts” style made famous by Boston architect Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow, Jr. (1854-1934).
Preceding the state Preservation Alliance s recognition, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) New Hampshire gave its 2021 Rick and Duffy Monahon Merit Award for Design Excellence in Architectural Restoration and Preservation to JSA for its Carey Cottage work. ....

Historic Home in Chesterfield On Market for $1 Goes Viral

The Marsh House, as it’s known, was built in the mid 1850’s in the Carpenter Gothic style, with a colorful slate roof and wrap-around porch. It was a private residence for over a century and later served as the town office. It sits on Route 63 across from an old post office made of locally-quarried stone and in front of the elementary school.
But for the last twelve years Marsh House has sat empty, falling into such disrepair that some townspeople wanted it demolished.
That’s when long-time resident and preservation enthusiast Jeff Scott stepped in.
