Eastern Carolina YMCA has a new executive director. David Heggie has taken over the role of president and chief executive officer as of May 2021. He filled the position vacated by Todd Shuart who retired in September 2020 concluding his thirty-one year tenure with 14 years of service at Eastern Carolina YMCA. Heggie previously served as the executive director at the YMCA of Greensboro. He also served as interim CEO of the YMCA in Greensboro which operates 8 facilities and a resident camp with more than 430 employees. “It’s funny, Greensboro can be considered a big city, but it’s also a small town in terms of once you start connecting to people, it’s a lot of the same circles so I consider Greensboro a small town as well”, said Heggie when asked about his decision to accept the position and relocate to New Bern, a much smaller city. ....
RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) The North Carolina Alliance of YMCAs released new data Thursday to show that the health protocols put in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus are apparently working. There are 96 YMCA locations across the state. In December and January, they hosted more than 1 million visits. During that time only 38 cases of COVID-19 were reported to the YMCA. YMCA leaders said they are dedicated to member and employee safety and work to exceed state, local and CDC guidelines.
