Workers in Cumbria among worst-hit by pandemic impact in North West, says research


WORKERS in Cumbria are among those to have faced the biggest impact from Covid-19 in the North West, according to new research.
Analysis of employment figures by small business lender iwoca shows that one in seven jobs in Cumbria are in the two sectors worst affected last year by the pandemic - accommodation and food services, and arts and entertainment.
Analysis of Office for National Statistics (ONS) data shows that job seekers allowance claims in the county rose by 64 per cent between January 2020 and January 2021.
Last year, iwoca pledged to lend £220 million to small businesses in the North by the end of 2023 to help them recover from the Covid-19 crisis. ....

Dorset adults with learning disabilities prioritised for Covid vaccines


Thousands of adults with learning disabilities on GP registers in Dorset will be prioritised for a coronavirus vaccine following new advice from Government advisers.
Some adults with severe learning disabilities have already received their first jab or were due to be invited for theirs in the next stage of the rollout in England, but disability campaigners and charities had warned this left many with less severe conditions at risk from the virus.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation has said that all adults on the GP learning disability register should be invited for a jab alongside others in priority group six – people aged 16-64 with underlying health conditions. ....
