Islamabad : The government is developing the first open and distance learning policy for the higher education sector, which will enable more than 200 higher educational institutions of the country and empower two million students, said federal education minister Shafqat Mahmood.
Addressing the Pakistan-UK Education Gateway Virtual Conference here, the minister acknowledged the efforts of the Higher Education Commission and British Council in executing the promising Rs1.9 billion Joint Project, which is of immense importance in the current setting of coronavirus pandemic. He said Pakistan s 150 million young people were Pakistan s greatest asset and the government by investing in the youth s development aimed to generate an educated workforce, build empathy and tolerance and improve Pakistan s position in the global market. ....

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Closing Plenary of Pak-UK Education Gateway Virtual Conference to provide an opportunity to connect, rethink and reshape programs and priorities between the two Countries was held on Thursday.
President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi, the Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood, the Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Tariq Banuri, Britain’s Deputy High Commissioner Mike Nithavrianakis, and other senior diplomats from British Council UK and Pakistan addressed the Conference.

Hybrid Education Vital to Build Non-Elitist Society: President Alvi
President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi has said that Pakistan is moving towards developing a non-elitist society and in this pursuit, the hybrid model of learning can play a vital role.
He said that Pakistan is quickly transitioning into an era, wherein hybrid education is changing the whole spectrum of society by opening new possibilities and opportunities. It has made knowledge dynamic and non-static.
He made these remarks while addressing the closing session of the 3-day Pak-UK Education Gateway virtual conference entitled “Rethinking and Reshaping a Resilient Higher Education System” that concluded on Thursday. The conference was jointly organized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the British Council. British Council, HEC organises conference on reshaping education system

KARACHI: The conference titled Pak-UK Education Gateway: Rethinking and reshaping a resilient higher education system, will discuss key issues facing the sector in the ‘new’ normal, the role of leadership in building resilient Higher Education systems, and lessons learnt from the pandemic. It will celebrate some of the concrete contributions that the Pak-UK Gateway programme has made so far.
The British Council in Pakistan and the Higher Education Commission launched a joint programme Pak-UK Education Gateway in 2018 with the goal to enhance partnership between the Higher Education sectors of Pakistan and the UK.
The aim of the gateway is to create greater access to higher education opportunities for young people by bolstering university collaborations on research, offering grants and scholarships, promoting international mobility and cross-cultural exchanges among students of both countries, and capacity building of higher education ....
