Over Ten Thousand Without Electricity In Mariposa County

Update at 6:40 p.m.: PG&E crews have turned the lights back on for a majority of the over ten-thousand customers in Mariposa County that lost their electricity before noon today. The outages stretched along Highways 49 and 120 including the communities of Buck Meadows, Coulterville, Bear Valley, Incline, El Portal, and Yosemite West. All but 618 of those customers remain in the dark tonight, including the areas of Incline, El Portal, Foresta, and Yosemite West. The utility does not give a restoration time, blames the wet weather for the outages.

The Burma Road is also known as the Briceburg or Bull Creek Road and immediately starts to climb along a steep road that is basically one lane wide with switchbacks that takes you up the hill. It is also called the Burma Grade. As you climb, you have incredible views of the Merced River, Briceburg, the suspension bridge, and Hwy 140. Besides hikers, high clearance 4 wheelers, motorcycles and mountain bikers also use this road. The road can have washouts, slides and deep ruts, closing it some years but when it is open, I understand you can get to Greeley Hill or Buck Meadows from Briceburg. ....
