Across Franklin County, COVID-19 numbers appear to stabilize

Franklin County and the North Quabbin region, for the most part, seemed to see a quieter couple of weeks as a whole when it came to reports of positive COVID-19 cases.
On New Year’s Eve, the state Department of Public Health reported that 22 of the Franklin County’s 26 municipalities are currently in the “gray” or lowest-risk category, with towns reporting anywhere from zero to eight cases since Dec. 17. Six towns report zero cases, while nine report fewer than five cases. ....

Two local nursing homes continue to report no new cases of COVID-19, while a third reported eight deaths this week, five more than it reported last week. Another nursing home and a long-term care facility reported an increase in the number of positive cases.
Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol reports its COVID-19 numbers daily on its website. Last week, it reported three deaths from the virus and by mid-week this week was reporting eight casualties.
It currently has 27 residents who have tested positive and 19 staff members. Seventeen residents and 26 staff members have recovered from the virus. ....

COVID-19 numbers continue to rise

Five area towns are in the state’s “red,” or highest-risk, category this week because of a surge in numbers of positive COVID-19 cases, according to its weekly report.
Greenfield, Montague, Deerfield and Orange in Franklin County and Athol in the North Quabbin region saw numbers of cases rise over the past two weeks. The state reports that Greenfield has 134 cases, Montague has 46, Deerfield has 36, Orange has 26 and Athol has 78 cases. There are currently only three towns reporting zero cases: Hawley, Monroe and New Salem. State numbers can lag, so the numbers in each town could be off some. ....
