National swimmer Ariful Islam became the second Bangladeshi contestant to receive a wild-card entry in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics after Bangladesh Swimming Federation confirmed him for the meet.
Ariful will join another national swimmer Junaina Ahmed, whose participation was earlier confirmed by BSF last week.
“We sent his name (Ariful) to the National Olympics Committee today. Ariful is selected for his event 50m freestyle. We also considered him due to his three-year scholarship in France under the Olympic solidarity program,” BSF General Secretary MB Saif told The Daily Sun on Sunday. ....

National swimmer Junaina Ahmed will represent Bangladesh in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics after Bangladesh Swimming Federation approves her participation in the meet.

Bangladesh Olympic Association recently sent a list of three swimmers to BSF Junaina, Ariful Islam and Jewel Ahmed to finalize two names for the Olympics after the swimmers received a green signal from International Olympic Committee for wild card entry.

“Our lone female swimmer of the list Junaina was shortlisted due to her performance in the 18th FINA World Championship held in South Korea in 2019 and we finalised her on basis of her age and performances in different national and international events,” BSF General Secretary M B Saif told The Daily Sun on Wednesday. ....

Country’s several sports federations are currently running their respective ad-hoc committees which are working to meet their elections under the National Sports Council this year after the COVID-19 break.
There is a very high possibility of new leadership in several sports federations if all parties follow their respective election procedures and welcome the wind of changes for the sake of sports.
The federations have to follow some procedures as per their respective constitutions or NSC bylaws ahead of the polls. As a part of the election procedures, NSC formed an ad-hoc committee for three months to conduct the federations activities and to supervise electoral laws over candidates and voters. ....
