Texas State to provide assistance to underrepresented transfer students

Jaden Edison To facilitate an increase in transfer enrollment of Black, Hispanic and non-traditional students, Texas State and Austin Community College (ACC) have partnered in the Equity Transfer Initiative, a grant-based initiative that will support resources and expand learning pathways for underrepresented student populations. The two-year initiative will provide $27,500 in assistance to both Texas State and ACC, the only two Texas institutions to receive the grant. There are five transfer pathways for students participating in the program, including education, computer science, nursing, business and engineering. At least 100 students will embark upon one of the five transfer pathways during the first year of the program. By the second year, the number of students will increase to 300 or more.

Framingham State receives $28K to transfer in more Black & Hispanic students

By Sam Bonacci Framingham State University will be taking part in a new, national initiative to increase transfer rates from community colleges to four-year colleges for Black, Hispanic, adult and first-generation learners. The Equity Transfer Initiative will manifest locally in a partnership between FSU and MassBay Community College in Wellesley. The two-year, $27,500 award from ETI will be used to increase transfer and completion for underrepresented populations using transfer pathways. These transfer pathways represent avenues to easily allow students to carry forward their education from a community college to a four-year institution. “Increasing and improving upon transfer and completion opportunities for underrepresented student populations is critical to supporting their educational goals and career aspirations,” FSU President Javier Cevallos said in a press release.
