Keep Carter County Beautiful to celebrate Earth Day on Tweetsie Trail cleanup

ELIZABETHTON â The weekend, Keep Carter County Beautiful will hold its Fourth Anual Great American Cleanup/Earth Day Project along the Tweetisie Trail. Joining the effort this year will be Missy Marshall, director of Keep Tennessee Beautfiul.
The event will start at 9 a.m. Saturday. Participants may park at the Recycle Center at the Lions Field. Participants are urged to dress appropriately for the weather and to bring water and snacks. Gloves and trash bags will be provided.
After the event there will be group pictures taken and selected gifts for participants. For those who have made anti-littering signs, please bring them and carry them along the trail for awareness about litter. â¨ ....

Kiamichi Technology Center to host job fair

Anyone looking for a job can participate in a job fair April 14 at Kiamichi Technology Centerâs Bill Prichard Family Seminar Center in McAlester
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 14 at KTC at 301 Kiamichi Dr. in McAlester.
Participants can print off their resumes at the event.
KTC will require anyone entering to have their temperature checked at the door and mask are required to be worn to help slow spread of COVID-19.
Employers will be set up in the seminar center.
Partnering to produce the event were Southern Workforce Board, Kiamichi Tech, The McAlester Area Chamber of Commerce, and the city of McAlester. ....

In February and March, I conducted a weather alert survey. Thank you to everyone who participated. The survey was to get an idea of how the general public receives and reacts to severe weather alerts, and to possibly change the way we react to these scary storms.
My first question asked what platform do you typically first receive a tornado warning alert?
Two in three people receive tornado warning alerts from their phone, or a weather app. 17% of participants get the alert via television and 15% rely on outdoor warning sirens to alert them of a tornado warning.
When alerted to a tornado warning, nearly 75% of all participants will immediately check for more information on a television or a weather app before making their next decision. ....

CLC's April classes highlight health, new skills

Here is the monthâs schedule:
âCooking Healthy with The Arcâ nutrition class is scheduled for Thursdays, April 8 and April 22, from noon to 1 p.m. in the centerâs kitchen. Participants will relearn old skills and learn new skills on how to eat smart in this free, hands-on program with Purdue Extension and the Arc of Noble County. These skills can be used at home every day, from planning, grocery shopping, and cooking tips, to creative simple solutions for healthy eating and physical activity.
