Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva helps secure funding for arts and tourism


Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D – Fullerton) in collaboration with California’s Arts, Entertainment, and Tourism industries, helped secure funding to bring back tourist to California and support the California Arts.
“As Chair of the Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism, and Internet Media, I am thankful to have the opportunity to work with leaders in these industries that have been especially hit hard during the pandemic,” said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva. “We have worked collaboratively to advocate for funds needed to ensure that California’s Recovery will include funding for our creative and artistic industries, and tourism.”

Virtual Board Service Certification Program starts March 9

During this challenging year, community organizations everywhere have pivoted plans or closed their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, organizations that support Creative Youth Development have seen much change with classrooms going virtual and extracurricular activities not able to resume. From theatre groups to music to dance and many more, arts and culture youth organizations are struggling. Starting March 9 through April 20, United Way of San Diego County (UWSD) in partnership with The Nonprofit Institute at the University of San Diego and sponsored by Clare Rose Foundation, will host a seven-week virtual training cohort for their Board Service Certification Program, and will focus on organizations that work in Creative Youth Development. ....

Support For Education And Disabilities A Focus For The Mazda Foundation

Last year, more than 61 recipients received lifechanging
grants totalling more than $160,000 from the Mazda
Foundation.
Among these was the Sailability Northland
Trust which received $1,600 to purchase boat covers so its
two specialised yachts stay in pristine condition.
The
Mazda Foundation was established in 2004 and is funded
through a contribution from the sale of every new Mazda in
New Zealand.
Founded in 2011, the Sailability
Northland Trust provides opportunities for physically
disabled young people and adults to learn to sail or just
experience being on a sailing boat through tuition and its
‘Have a Go’ days.
