Outdoor graduations in Virginia can have up to 5,000 people attend this spring, governor announces

K-12 schools and colleges in Virginia can host outdoor graduation ceremonies this spring with as many as 5,000 attendees, Gov. Ralph Northam announced Wednesday, the latest decision to gradually loosen restrictions as COVID-19 cases decline.
The state will limit graduation capacity at outdoor ceremonies to 5,000 people or 30% of the venue s capacity, whichever is less. It will cap indoor ceremonies to 500 people or 30% of the venue s capacity, whichever is less. The guidelines require all attendees wear masks and distance themselves. 
While graduation and commencement ceremonies will still be different than they were in the past, this is a tremendous step forward for all of our schools, our graduates and their families, Northam said in a statement.  ....

Wake Forest University plans for in-person commencement ceremonies


The past week has been a pretty good one for Wake Forest University students.
On Friday, the Winston-Salem university lifted most of the remaining campus restrictions aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19 among its students.
The university followed that up Tuesday by telling students that it plans to hold commencement in person in May.
In a message to 2021 graduates, Wake Forest said most undergraduate commencement activities will take place May 16 or May 17 — or possibly both days.
One of those events is what President Nathan Hatch called a large, celebratory event for seniors at Truist Field — the Wake Forest football stadium — that will be a high-energy event that you won’t want to miss. ....

Where to purchase cap, gown for Penn State's spring 2021 in-person commencement


Penn State announced Wednesday its spring 2021 commencement will take place in person.
For the first time in nearly a year, graduates can trade out their pajamas for cap and gowns again.
Caps and gowns can be purchased at the Penn State Bookstore, which is located inside the HUB- Robeson Center.
Additionally, caps and gowns can be ordered and purchased at The Student BookStore on East College Avenue in downtown State College. Order forms for regalia caps and gowns can be found on its website. ....

Penn State announces in-person commencement for spring 2021


Spring 2021 graduates will have an in-person commencement with virtual options, Penn State President Eric Barron announced via email Wednesday.
The in-person commencement weekend will take place May 7-9 rain or shine, according to the email. The virtual commencement option will be held May 9 at 6 p.m. on the commencement website.
Graduates will be allowed two guests to sit in pods of up to three people at Beaver Stadium, according to the statement. The ceremonies will be live-streamed for those not attending in person.
Tickets will be required for all graduates and guests, and all must follow coronavirus procedures. Graduating students are encouraged to utilize the university s on-demand testing process before commencement. ....
