Olivia Lynn Chastain Ridgeway, age 64, of Jackson, Georgia, passed away from a short illness on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, April 8, 11:00 AM at Towaliga Baptist Church, 160 Towaliga Church Rd. Jackson, Georgia. Rev. Ed Steil will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 immediately prior to the service at the Church. A new year brings a chance for a fresh start and hopes for a better year than the one before. The Progress-Argus asked Jackson Mayor Kay Pippin, recently resigned Butts County Board of Commission Chair and current District 1 Commissioner Ken Rivers, and Butts County Schools Superintendent Dr. Todd Simpson for their “hopes” for the new year:

“As we headed into 2020, we had a long list of hopes and plans for the new year, but little did we know that a pandemic would cause the most significant global disruption of our lifetime. It’s been a tough year for all of us with significant financial burden placed on many, but there is no doubt that we have also seen true grit, resilience and community spirit. My hope for the New Year is a chance to focus on recovery, restoration and completing delayed goals. ....

Butts County elected officials take oaths of office


Butts County Probate Judge Elizabeth Biles has had an extra busy two weeks as she gave the oaths of office to 12 elected officials and others for 2021 and their terms of office. Towaliga Judicial Circuit Judge William A. Fears gave her a hand, giving the oaths of office to two, including Biles.
The swearing in ceremonies began on Dec. 8 at the Butts County Board of Education meeting. Biles swore District 3 Board of Education member Kelly Raney and District 4 Board of Education member Clifford Marshall into office for another four years. Raney and Marshall won re-election to their offices during the Primary Election. ....

Life Enrichment Team and community sponsors honored by Butts County Board of Education


The Butts County Board of Education honored the Butts County Life Enrichment Team (LET) and community sponsors for their efforts to aid students during this unusual time. LET Executive Director Ann-Marie Pope coordinated a challenge of collecting money and supplies to be able to send home with every students in the system (3,435) a bag that included a digital thermometer, hand sanitizer, wash cloth, bar soap, face covering, and pamphlets about staying safe during the pandemic and available community resources.
