Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and the African Centre for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) at Redeemers University have detected additional six COVID-19 B117 variants.
Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director General, NCDC, made the confirmation on Monday in Abuja at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing.
The variant was discovered in six samples – five from Osun and one from Kwara.
The coronavirus type first emerged in the United Kingdom.

A strange illness suspected to be onchocerciasis or lymphatic filariasis that causes swollen legs has hit Bara village in Kirfi local government area of Bauchi State.
The Executive Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BASPHCDA), Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, disclosed this on Monday while briefing newsmen on the commemoration of the 2021 World Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Day celebration.
He noted that out of the 15 affected villagers, ten have been hospitalized.
“Late Sunday evening, we got a report that people’s legs were swelling up in Bara village. The reports have it that 10 people have been affected. I have directed the Disease Control Department of the agency to mobilise its team to the village to find out what the problem is. ....

The health agency disclosed this on its official Twitter handle, Monday night.
The NCDC said that twenty-one additional people died from coronavirus-related complications in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 1,607.
It stated that the 676 new infections were recorded in 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the last 24 hours.

About 15 persons in Bara village on the Gombe road in Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State have been infected by a strange illness that causes swollen legs.
The Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BASPHCDA), Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, who disclosed this while briefing journalists on the commemoration of the 2021 World Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Day celebration held yesterday, said last Sunday evening, the agency got a report that some people’s legs were swelling up in Bara village.
According to him, “I have directed the disease control department of the agency to mobilise to the village to find out what the problem is .We are suspecting Onchocerciasis or Lymphatic Filariasis, considering that the local government area is one of those that have the cases of those tropical diseases. As soon as we get the results of the investigation, we will take prompt action to curb it.” ....

Abdulrasak, fondly called ‘Baba Osun’, died during an illness.
The deceased was the Dispatch Supervisor at the National Secretariat in Abuja.
Abdulrasak, born December 26th, 1959, was married with children. He hailed from Osun State.
He previously worked at the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), one of the APC legacy political parties.
Abdulrasak attended St. Bartholomew boarding school and Kufena College (both in Wusasa-Zaria); Center for Islamic & Arabic Studies, Ikirun; Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, and Advanced College of Economics, Zuba-Abuja, where he bagged an Ordinary National Diploma in Economics.
He served in different capacities at the Bola Ige Northern Youth Members, Northern Coalition for Democracy & Justice, Northern Youth Alliance, Integrity Social Friends, Pro-Aregbesola Support Group and Afenifere Renewal Group. ....
