FSU President Thrasher OK with not renaming Doak Campbell Stadium


Thrasher did agree to a recommendation to create “a high-profile acknowledgement of the contributions on the part of Black and other underrepresented minority student athletes at the stadium.”
He s asking Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics David Coburn to begin talks with FSU constituent groups, ”including but not limited to the FSU National Black Alumni, Inc. and the Black Student Union.”
Based on new recommendations, Thrasher:
Directed the Office of Human Resources and Division of Student Affairs to incorporate equity, diversity and inclusion training into employee onboarding and new student orientation programming.
Direct the Office of the Provost to continue to identify needs and available resources to greatly increase the diversity of the applicant pool for the university’s honors and other scholarship programs. ....

Following the conviction of Derek Chauvin, Brown President Christina H. Paxson wrote to the community about the justice many have hoped for since the murder of George Floyd and the need for continued action to confront anti-Black racism.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] After approximately 10 hours of deliberation, a panel of jurors on April 20 returned guilty verdicts on three counts in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer charged with murdering George Floyd. In the wake of the verdict, Brown University President Christina H. Paxson wrote to the Brown community about the justice so many have hoped for since the murder in May 2020 and the need for continued resolve to effect real and meaningful change. ....
