The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is to propose a $650 billion Special Drawing Rights (SDR) to its member countries in the organisation’s efforts to boost their reserve positions.
The Managing Director (MD) of the IMF, Ms Kristinalina Georgieva, disclosed during a press briefing at the ongoing virtual IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings, that the G20 had given the needed node for the proposal to be tabled before members yesterday.
According to her, “As indicated by the G20 today, we will propose a new Special Drawing Rights (SDR) allocation of $659 billion. This will help address the long-term global needs for reserve assets and provide a substantial liquidity boost to all our members especially the most vulnerable. ....

Shanghai police officer Qian Haijun was so dedicated to the job that when he was overdue for a Mother s Day dinner last year, his family assumed he was working late.
His wife, Yang Yun, and their daughter were preparing the meal that night, May 10, when they received word that Qian had died of a heart attack.
Although he was always busy with his work, I know that he had the family at heart and cared for us in his way, Yang said. He knew I liked to eat watermelons, so he often tried to buy the freshest one for me in summer. I don t think he has left us. I imagine he s working overtime somewhere, like before. ....

IMF raises Nigeria’s 2021 growth rate to 2.5 %

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) 2021 growth rate from 1.5 per cent to 2. 5 per cent.
This was contained in its World Economic Outlook (WEO) released by the organization, yesterday, in which it , however, slightly reduced next year’s growth forecast from 2.5 per cent to 2.3 per cent.
The IMF also raised the 2021 projected Global growth from its October 2020 position of 5.5 per cent, to a new 6 per cent.
“Global growth is projected at 6 percent in 2021, moderating to 4.4 percent in 2022. The projections for 2021 and 2022 are stronger than in the October 2020 WEO. ....

NDIC boss tasks ICAN member-auditors on accuracy, integrity -

The Managing Director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC, Bello Hassan, has charged professional auditors who are members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, to uphold the core values of accuracy and integrity.
He gave the charge while receiving an ICAN delegation led by Council member, Mrs Sofura Seghosime, at the NDIC head office in Abuja.
The Director, Communication & Public Affairs Department, NDIC, Mr. Bashir Nuhu, quoted the NDIC boss in a statement as saying that ICAN members needed integrity to earn public respect and confidence.
Hassan explained that both the NDIC and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) relied on the works of third parties, including external auditors and reporting accountants in the Risk-Based Supervision (RBS) of deposit taking institutions. ....
