MOULTON, Ala. (WAFF) - Adrian Taylor has worked in maintenance for the Lawrence County Board of Education for nearly sixteen years. He has applied for the maintenance manager position three times.
“I’m definitely the best man for the job. Without a doubt,” Taylor said.
Taylor says someone else has been hired every time. He says he has experience in everything when it comes to working in maintenance. ....

The Iberia Parish Sheriff s Office announced Friday that John Babin has been hired at the new Captain of IPSO Bureau of Investigations. Babin takes over the role from Eddie Langlanais, who resigned from the position in October to pursue other interests, Sheriff Tommy Romero said.
Babin a 36-year veteran of law enforcement, retired from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff s Office as Head of the Crime Scene Unit and recently as Captain of Detectives with the New Iberia Police Department. Babin brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the job of Captain of IPSO Bureau of Investigations. ....

Americans dont like the idea of a national identity card. But in an era of intense controversies over election integrity and illegal immigration, it is time to rethink the subject.
Our views on national identity documents trace back to the British. When the U.S. was founded, immigration was largely unregulated, and people knew their neighbors, so voting was secure.
We are now in a crisis in which many people lack confidence in the integrity of elections. Some of these fears are unfounded , but in 2020 unsolicited mailing of ballots and abandoning of signature checks on mail ballots provided the basis for skepticism far beyond the concerns of prior years. Restoring trust in elections is crucial to the countrys unity. ....

Firms hired for road projects

Commissioners took several steps to improve the county’s roads and bridges during Tuesday’s meeting.
Commissioners hired Asphalt Paving and Maintenance LLC for $198,900 to crush 39,000 tons of concrete formerly used as road surfacing.
“It’s a tremendous amount of concrete that will be used all over the county for several years,” engineer Brice Goebel said.
Commissioners also hired BG Consultants for engineering services to replace a bridge on Eagle Rd. that crosses French Creek. The county will pay the engineering company $46,500.
Rebuilding 20 miles of Nighthawk Rd. will get started after possible change orders to a $2,653,500 contract with Coughlin Co., St. George, Utah. ....

Steak 'n Shake Taps Adviser for Possible Debt Restructuring -- Update

Steak n Shake Inc. is preparing for a possible financial restructuring and has hired an advisory firm to evaluate options as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to hit the casual-dining sector hard, according to people familiar with the matter.
The Indianapolis-based burger-and-milkshake chain hired FTI Consulting Inc. to advise on a restructuring strategy, the people said. Steak n Shake, owned by entrepreneur Sardar Biglari s eponymous holding company, has struggled with restrictions on indoor dining and has a $153 million loan coming due in March, they said.
Steak n Shake, Biglari Holdings Inc., and FTI didn t immediately respond to requests for comment. Biglari Holdings said in a November securities filing that Steak n Shake may not be able to refinance its loan before the March maturity. ....
