The British Egg Industry Council warns the government not to leave the back door open to lower standard imports

Defra has published what it says is the first plan of its kind which, it adds, will revolutionise the treatment of animals in the UK and introduce measures to protect the welfare of animals abroad.
Regulation will be strengthened, such as recognising animals as sentient in law along with a new range of welfare measures for pets and livestock. ....

The temperature restriction is just one of a number of proposals that have sent shockwaves through the crofting and farming community in Scotland, particularly in the islands where warnings have been given they could end livestock production. ....

Livestock travel ban proposals threaten future of farming in the Northern Isles

NFU Scotland branches in Orkney and Shetland, as well as Orkney Mart, have raised concerns regarding live export proposals, along with a range of local stakeholders, from vets to farmers themselves
ORKNEY AND Shetland politicians have warned that restrictions on livestock shipments from the islands could threaten the viability of livestock production in the Northern Isles.
Both the UK and Scottish governments are currently consulting on proposals to amend rules relating to live animal transport to improve animal welfare post-Brexit.
Northern Isles politicians have made a joint submission to both consultations outlining the serious threat these new regulations pose to the future of livestock farming in the Northern Isles, calling for extreme caution , and stressing that the changes being considered – including limits on maximum wind speeds and/or minimum temperatures during which animals can be transported – could severely restrict livestock shipments from ....
