Bike swap set for Saturday


Got a bike you want to unload? Want a new set of wheels for the spring and summer?
The Hub Bicycles announced last week that its bike swap is back after a virus-forced break last year. The ninth annual Jackson Hole Community Bike Swap is set for 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 15 at Snow King Sports and Event Center.
To pass a bike along to a new owner, drop it off from noon to 7 p.m. May 14. The event is open to all kinds of bikes — town cruisers, kid’s bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes and everything in between — so long as they are in working order. ....

Outdoor classroom
After months of planning, the Jackson Hole Children’s Museum has broken ground on its new outdoor classroom.
Museum Executive Director Ethan Lobdell said the over 700-square-foot addition is necessary to accommodate ever-increasing demand for the nonprofit’s summer programs. There are over 75 families on the waitlist for 2021 Summer Camps, museum press material states.
The project was funded by Lynn and Foster Friess and will include a new custom-built tool shed from GrowHuts of Victor, Idaho.
“Our new outdoor classroom is critical to serving Teton County families through Summer Camps, Afterschool, and STEAM workshops — programming that is essential to our community,’ Lobdell said. ....

Meeting the dead of Jackson Hole's early days


Walking around Timbered Island one day in the 1990s I spied something that didn’t fit the landscape. When I was closer I saw a chain-link fence about armpit high enclosing a small rectangle.
I suspected as soon as I saw the shape and some plastic flowers stuck to the wire: I went straight up, looked down and saw what I expected.
It was a grave. I was elated.
