Lerwick has been selected for the third time to be a host port for the spectacular Tall Ships Races.
Sail Training International, the operator of the Tall Ships Races, has today (Tuesday 11 May) announced the selected host ports for the 2023 series, with the Races expected to visit Lerwick, the only Scottish location, from 26-29 July. The isles previously hosted the event in 1999 and 2011.
Shetland Islands Council has led the isles successful bid, in partnership with Lerwick Port Authority and Shetland Tall Ships Limited, which will undertake delivery of the event locally. Many other organisations are supporting the event, including EventScotland, part of VisitScotland s Events Directorate, and Sail Training Shetland. ....

LERWICK has been confirmed as one of the host ports for the 2023 Tall Ships Races.
Organising charity Sail Training International announced on Tuesday Den Helder (The Netherlands), Hartlepool (UK), Fredrikstad (Norway) and Lerwick as host ports for the annual sailing event.
The tall ships are scheduled to visit Lerwick for the third time, having previously been hosted in the islands in 1999 and 2011, between 26 and 29 July 2023.

The announcement was not unexpected following leaks to the local press in April suggesting that Lerwick’s bid to host the event had been successful.
Following the council-led bid for the event, a partnership of the SIC, Lerwick Port Authority and Shetland Tall Ships Limited will now get to work to plan for the delivery of the event locally. ....

The situation remains fluid for the tal ships event
THE future of the Tall Ships 2021 event in Falmouth remains in the balance with the situation across Europe constantly changing because of Covid, the organisers have said today.
For the moment the event is still going ahead but the worsening situation with Covid in Europe means that there is no guarantee that it will not be cancelled.
A statement issued by the Falmouth Tall Ships organisers this afternoon regarding the Magellan-Elcano series scheduled for August 2021 said: As there is a continually fluid situation across Europe, and across the globe, with regard to how the COVID pandemic affects 2021 international travel and events, Falmouth Town Council, the Falmouth Town Team, the Falmouth Tall Ships Association and key strategic partners, are in continual liaison with the Tall Ships Races Magellan-Elcano Series 2021 organisers, Tall Ships Races International Ltd (TSRIL), a subsidiary of Sail Training Interna ....
