Apple on Monday announced new changes, additions and updates to its App Store Guideline policies, one of which includes developer instructions for implementing App Tracking Transparency.
Detailed in a post to Apple s developer portal, the updates are in large part clarifications and modifications to existing rules governing payments, disclosures and app terminology.
One noted addition to Apple s ruleset covers App Tracking Transparency, a new iOS feature designed to give users more control over data privacy. Initially slated to debut in 2020, the upcoming feature opts users out of ad tracking by default. When opening an app for the first time, users will see a permission dialogue box with two selections: Allow Tracking and Ask Apps Not to Track. ....

Facebook has locked horns with Apple over the recent iOS 14 privacy changes. The advertising industry lead by Facebook is against the new iOS anti-tracking feature that will come to force shortly. After facing lash back from Facebook, Apple postponed the new feature. However, it is soon set to come into force much to the dismay of advertising industry. Facebook could a legal route, and alleges Apple has “abused its power.”
TheInformation reports that Facebook has been prepping a lawsuit against Apple for months. It also highlights that unlike other developers, Apple’s apps don’t have to follow App Store rules. We are not sure whether Facebook will go ahead and file a suit. Apparently, some of Facebook employees are not in favour of the lawsuit. ....

Apple commemorated Data Privacy Day with a new report about data tracking practices and by highlighting its efforts to stop them, including a new anti-tracking feature coming in the next iOS beta cycle ahead of a launch this spring.

Those efforts include the new App Store privacy nutrition labels, which debuted in December 2020, and the upcoming App Tracking Transparency feature that has been widely criticized by Facebook.
In its announcement ahead of Data Privacy Day on Jan. 28, Apple said that ATT will debut with Apple s next beta update. The feature itself is a significant change to the Identifier for Advertiser (IDFA) tag that requires apps to explicitly ask permission before tracking users. ....
