Tom Weathers Was A True Gentleman Of High Moral Character

Tom Weathers Was A True Gentleman Of High Moral Character - And Response (2)
Saturday, December 12, 2020
A friend of mine won the state wrestling championship in his weight class in 1966 for Kirkman Technical High School. I never realized that Tom Weathers was one of the wrestling coaches at KTHS until I read his obituary.
I can’t count the number of RBHS football games I attended before, during and after the years our daughters were there from the fall of ‘91 through the spring of ‘98. The four years that Gerald Riggs played were some of the most exciting games. I, along with many hundreds of RBHS students, parents, faculty and fans, stood in the snow at MTSU Dec. 2, 2000 witnessing one of the greatest football victories of all times. ....

Earl Freudenberg: I Miss Those Coffee Breaks With Coach Weathers At The Southern Restaurant

Earl Freudenberg: I Miss Those Coffee Breaks With Coach Weathers At The Southern Restaurant

Tom Weathers
Many tributes will be written about Legendary Coach Tom Weathers in the next few days after he died Wednesday.
I knew the coach off the football field. He came to Kirkman in the mid 60’s while I was in high school and impressed both the faculty and students.
I didn t know it for a long time but the coach was a regular listener to my morning show on WDOD.  He called me one day and said he was really enjoying those Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin tunes. For many years he would come to the Southern Restaurant on Dayton Boulevard about 3:00 for coffee. It was informal but among the coffee drinkers were Dr. Fred Steelman, businessman Sam Swope, Jim Bramble (sporting authority), Newberry Street Mayor Howard Cotter, restaurant owner Jack Wood and a lot more. The Haskew Brothers would sometimes show up on their way to their rad ....

Randy Smith: Tom Weathers' Blue Parka - Chattanoogan.com

Randy Smith: Tom Weathers Blue Parka
Thursday, December 10, 2020 - by Randy Smith
I can still see it now. The snow swirling in the final minutes of the TSSAA State Championship Game back in 2000. The Red Bank Lions kept handing the ball to their super-stud running back Gerald Riggs Jr. to seal the Class 5-A state title. The Lions would defeat Murfreesboro Riverdale 27-7 that night, in the middle of a snowstorm 20 years ago. There is one image burned into my memory from that night that is even more vivid. That s the image of Red Bank coach Tom Weathers standing on the sidelines wearing a blue parka with the hood over his head. ....
