College board awards more than $126,000 in contracts


In two 4-0 votes, the Board of Trustees hired Aspire Construction in St. Charles for both projects.
The company was awarded a $103,970 contract to build the canopy at the Area Technical School. It submitted the lowest of three bids for the project.
Jefferson College President Dena McCaffrey said the canopy is needed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s to extend the lab to the lot behind the building,” she said. “It will be a permanent structure that will allow the students and instructors to move portable equipment under the canopy for better spacing to ensure physical distancing among students.” ....

Three days of remote learning for SUN students


NEW BERLIN — The SUN Area Technical School has announced that students will attend classes remotely through the end of scheduled activities on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
Jennifer Hain, administrative director, said the school was notified Friday of four positive COVID-19 cases within a 14-day rolling window as identified by Department of Health (DOH) guidelines. The three-day period of remote learning was made after consultation wiht the DOH and in accordance with the guidelines which considered the size of the school.
“During this time the state will conduct contact tracing and SUN (ATI) will follow the necessary cleaning protocols,” Hain noted in a news release. “This is the first switch to remote learning that SUN (ATI) has experienced this school year due to positive cases.” ....

SUN Area Technical School will move to all remote learning for three days starting Monday due to four positive COVID-19 cases.
Today, the SUN Area Technical School has been notified of four positive COVID-19 cases within the 14-day rolling window as identified by the PA Department of Health guidelines, said Jennifer Hain, administrative director, in a news release. In accordance with the most recent guidelines, the size of our school, and in consultation with the DOH, SUN Tech will switch to remote learning for three days starting on December 14th.
Hain said the state will conduct contact tracing and SUN Tech will follow cleaning protocols. It s the first switch to remote learning at SUN Tech this school year. ....
